Matt has over ten years’ teaching experience, which has taken him to Tuscany, The Czech Republic, Poland and South Sudan. He teaches workshops for the Poetry School and has worked with the Arvon Foundation, the George Orwell Foundation and The John Betjeman Poetry Prize.


Matt has written and delivered courses for the charity Story Door, which aims to improve literacy levels among disadvantaged students across the South West by sharing poems, inspiring writing and fostering an enthusiasm for poetry.


Matt is also trained in using poetry with dementia sufferers in care homes, and worked on the Making of Me project, for which he received mentoring from John Killick.


Matt is a member of Fire River Poets, for whom he runs the Somerset Young Poets Competition (for 7 - 16 year-olds) which involves delivering workshops at schools across Somerset. The prize-giving is held in Taunton, and winning poems are printed in a special anthology, which forms the basis of a reading tour of participating schools. In addition, an exhibition of winning and commended poems tours the libraries of Somerset. Entry is free. Click here for for an application form.
